Questions

What people ask before a flooring job

Short answers to the questions we hear most. For anything about your own floor, call (678) 851-9375.

Is the estimate free?

Yes. We come out, measure, look at the floor and subfloor, and give you a price.

Should I refinish my floors or replace them?

Most worn hardwood can be refinished. Scratches, sun fade, gray traffic lanes and an outdated color all sand out of solid wood. Replacement makes sense when boards are badly water-damaged, too thin to sand again, or loose from the subfloor, and often only the bad boards need to come out.

More on refinishing and repairs.

How long does refinishing take?

A typical main level takes three to five days from the first sanding pass to the last coat. The size of the area, the stain color and the type of finish all affect it.

When can we walk on the floor and move furniture back?

You can usually walk on it in socks about a day after the final coat. Furniture goes back after a few days, lifted into place and not dragged. Rugs should wait a few weeks while the finish cures. We will give you exact times for the finish used on your floor.

How much dust does sanding make?

Sanding machines collect most of the dust at the machine, but not all of it. Plan to close off or cover anything you want kept clean. We go over how to prepare the house at the estimate.

Can you match new hardwood to the floor I already have?

Yes. We match the species and board width and weave the new boards into the old floor in staggered lengths. For the color to match, the new and old sections are usually sanded and finished together.

What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?

Solid hardwood is one piece of wood, ¾ in. thick, nailed to a wood subfloor. Engineered hardwood has a real wood surface on a layered core, which keeps it stable over concrete. Both are real wood on top. Where the floor is going usually decides which one to use.

Can I have hardwood in my basement?

Solid hardwood is not recommended below ground level because of moisture from the slab. Glue-down engineered hardwood gives you a real wood surface in a basement. LVP and laminate are the other options. See basement floors.

Do you do stairs and railings too?

Yes. We install and finish stair treads and handrails, refinish existing ones, and install iron spindles. See stairs and railings.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Lilburn and work across metro Atlanta. See service areas, or call and ask about your address.

What are your hours?

Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm. Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm. Closed Sunday.
