What we fix
- Water damage. Boards that have cupped, buckled or turned black after a leak from a dishwasher, refrigerator line or bathroom.
- Pet stains. Dark stains that have soaked into the wood and will not sand out.
- Cracked, split or loose boards.
- Bare patches. The gap left in a floor after a wall, cabinet or hearth is removed in a remodel.
- Subfloor problems. Soft, damaged or uneven subfloor found under the wood.
Making a patch disappear
A good repair starts with matching wood: the same species, the same board width, and a similar grade. New boards are woven into the old floor in staggered lengths, so there is no straight line where the repair starts.
Color is the hard part. New finish next to old finish almost always shows, even with the right stain. The reliable way to hide a repair is to sand and refinish the whole room, or the whole connected area, after the boards are in. We will tell you at the estimate whether a spot repair will look right or whether the room should be refinished.
When a repair is not enough
If damage runs through most of a room, replacing the floor can cost less than repairing it board by board. We do full floor replacement too, including any subfloor work the old floor was hiding.
