What we install

  • Solid hardwood. Boards ¾ in. thick, nailed to a wood subfloor. It can be sanded and refinished several times over its life.
  • Engineered hardwood. A real wood surface on a layered core. It can be glued to concrete or floated, which makes it the right pick over a slab.
  • Prefinished. The finish goes on at the factory, so you can walk on the floor the day it is laid.
  • Unfinished, finished on site. We lay raw wood, then sand, stain and seal it in your home. You get any color you want and a flat surface with no bevels between boards.

Before the first board goes down

Most of what decides how a floor looks in ten years happens before installation starts.

  • Old flooring comes out and the subfloor is checked for damage, squeaks and high or low spots.
  • The wood sits in the house so it can adjust to the humidity it will live in.
  • We settle which way the boards run and how they meet tile, carpet and stairs.

On one job the old floor was damaged and uneven, and a new subfloor had to be fitted before the hardwood could go in. The customer wrote afterward that the finished floor “looks as though none of that happened.” We would rather find that kind of problem at the estimate than halfway through the job.

Species and widths

Most homes around Atlanta have red oak or white oak in 2¼ in. strips. Wider 3¼ in. and 5 in. planks are common in newer homes and remodels. If you are adding on to a floor you already have, tell us what is there and we will match the species and width so the new section ties in.

Adding hardwood to more rooms

Extending hardwood into a kitchen, hallway or bedroom is a common request. New boards are woven into the existing floor, and the whole area is sanded and finished together so it reads as one floor.
